There seems to be an epidemic going around these days….no I’m not talking about bitchassness, I’m talking about a disease which makes young ladies these days think that yall are Beyonce.  The main symptom is shown by young women who go around singing the lyrics to Beyonce’s songs sometimes even speaking them as if they are a mantra or a decree of some sort.  Beyoncatitis (pronounced be-yon-suh-tie-tis) has afflicted many a woman and while it is a problem that affects women only, its true victims are the men in these women’s life.  But seriously, why are gurlies going around repeating the things that Beyonce says in reference to themselves?  You are NOT Beyonce.  You don’t have her bank account, her husband, or her husband’s bank account for that matter, and most of yall don’t have any where near her looks.  Now add all that up and you have a heaping helping of STOP THAT soup.  Further more, Beyonce isn’t Beyonce damn it!!! She was “with” Jay for how many years before he “put a ring on it”.  As a matter of fact I still haven’t seen the receipt that says they are together, he aint change his MySpace status, I aint seen no Facebook pics, so how in the hell is she the love guru >:-O  !  She needs to be singing “if he like it then when we out at public events you could at least act like we came together and didn’t just get stuck sitting with each other” oh but that’s not quite as catchy right!!!  Look the bottom line is we need to stop taking these chorus line approaches to our lives and realize that what these artists sing is for the most part is fiction even to them.  Music artists and their songs aren’t much different from actors and movies.  Pleeeez stop taking what they say and trying to live it out….you just might end up with not only that motto based on fiction but a fictional relationship as well….(if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it…..geeesh stoooop it) I’m just sayin!

Is it me or has the wonderful world of R&B become more like rap.  It seems that there are a lot of “underground” R&B tracks coming out these days which to me is reminiscent of the 50 cent days of rap.  I guess what I mean is that where the Mix tape scene was always one of rap it is becoming more and more of an R&B thing.  It’s not a knock on any one it’s just interesting to see how the industry changes.  Perhaps it’s because of the fact that production and distribution has become so easily done by oneself that more music is being produced than can fit on a CD.  Take artists like Trey Songz for instance, he is an out of this world talent who comes out with excellent music, but one of his greatest strengths is his remaking of current songs i.e.: “Gotta Believe It”, a cover of T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe it”.  A song like this never would have been created five years ago, let alone recorded, and definitely cannot be even considered for an album.  This is what leads to the open releases that we get today.  But then you have artists like Mario who has also developed a penchant for releasing songs that aren’t remakes at all, but originals on Mix tapes recently…on that note….maybe…..just maybe…some one stole their music and they are illegally distributing it….if that’s the case you didn’t hear any of this from me, Peace!!!!!

I want to start out by saying that in no way am I writing this to hate…I actually am a huge fan, however its something I noticed that cant be left unsaid.  So without any further ado, I give you my observation; the R&B singer Ne-Yo has been making some songs in the name of being different but it’s not really him being unique.  For further explanation of what I mean I offer the song entitled “Single“, which is a blatant sample of the Coldplay song “Viva La Vida”.  I don’t really have too much of a problem with the fact that it’s a sample, although I used to think R&B was some what safe from sampling, the problem is in him getting credit for being original.  While I agree that he should still get Kudos for stepping outside of the box, he also shouldn’t get credit where it isn’t deserved.  While putting on twist on something is risky and takes skill I think it’s much harder to make something from scratch, who gets more points the Chef who made my dinner at a restaurant or me for heating it up and adding some tomatoes to it the next day.  I’m just saying!

Here is my introduction to still editing.  While I must say this is not my first love, I came to appreciate story telling without sound as a true art form.  Hope you enjoy!
